Why being an artist is as important as being a doctor.
For me personally being an artist is a process of inspiration, research, understanding and then giving birth to a creation, it isn’t as painful as actual childbirth of course, but that journey is what it feels like, the seed planted, the nurturing for sometimes months and the final push after believing you can’t do it. And then the rest needed after a part of you is now in the world.
For the viewer, art is what lights up the world, from everything you see in your kitchen cupboards to the print on your bedding, it’s all art, it’s all been designed at some point. Look round now, what can you see? Patterns, shapes, colours, book covers, tiles around your fireplace, posters on the wall. Art, all art.
Now imagine if that was gone? The world would be a pretty boring and depressing place.
If you have a friend or family member who is doing art or who wants to be an artist, please encourage them, don’t fob them off as a silly idea or it won’t get them anywhere, tell them it’s a wonderful idea and that you support them, because believe me if you don’t, you are crushing a part of their souls.
I have met so many 50+ people who had something said to them as a child or teen by a teacher or parent that stayed with them all their life, they stopped creating or making art because of it, and it wasn’t until they met me, that they gave it a go again. What a waste of a creative life because of someone else not thinking of the impact they are having with their words. So encourage your children to be creative, to explore and experiment with art because you are nurturing someone who not only sees the world in a different way, but who could make thousands of people happy.
